Waconia is a far western suburb of Minneapolis founded in 1857. This lakeshore town of 10,000 people embodies the spirit of hometown hospitality and people from all over come to enjoy Lake Waconia – one of the largest and cleanest lakes in the area. Waconia has a thriving downtown, just two blocks from the lake with entertainment, gift and unique shops, casual and fine dining and serious small-town hospitality.
Lake Waconia
The second largest lake in the Twin Cities metro area (3,080 acres), Lake Waconia is recognized as one of the best windsurfing lakes in the U.S. due to its consistent wind and wave conditions. Basically discovered in 1978 when Fleet 8 hosted the Windsurfer District 5 Championships, Lake Waconia quickly became the most popular high-wind lake in the metro area and has been the site of over 60 windsurfing regattas.
Lake Waconia Regional Park
On the east edge of town, Waconia has a beautiful regional park on the water, including a sandy beach, picnic tables and recreation area. This will be regatta headquarters for registration, racer meetings, lunches, Friday night shrimp boil and the awards ceremony. A portion of the swimming beach will be designated for access to the race course. It will be a perfect place for racers, guests and spectators to mingle and celebrate a great event.
